Frost New Tab

Frost initially started as a project made just for myself. Quickly, I found that my nerdy friends also wanted to use it. So I spent the months of 2021 making a polished version.

I wanted something that looked refreshing and had zero clutter. The only visible elements are the search bar and the shortcuts. And the frosted glass design lets them blend with the wallpaper.

Options are accessible through a context menu. Much of the aesthetic is tweakable, and you have deep control over the shortcuts and search engines.

To keep load times fast, Frost would convert images into the WebP format, with optional image compression. All done locally!

This was also my first large software project, and the only one I wrote in vanilla JavaScript.

Looking back, I see there is something lasting about code written without a frontend web framework. Things I wrote years ago are still relevant today, without needing continuous upkeep on my part.
