Frost

Frost began as a thing I made just for myself. Very soon I found that my friends were also interested in using it, so I spent the months of 2021 making a polished version.

I wanted something that looked refreshing and had zero clutter, with the shortcuts and search bar being the only visible elements. Through the frosted glass design, they blend tastefully with the background.

Options are accessible through a context menu. Much of the aesthetic is tweakable, and you have deep control over the shortcuts and search engines.

To keep load times fast, Frost converts images into the WebP format, with optional image compression. All done locally!

This was also my first large software project, and the only one I wrote entirely in vanilla JavaScript.

Looking back, I see there is something lasting about code written without a frontend web framework. Things I wrote years ago are still relevant today, without needing continuous upkeep on my part.
